The best online reactive dog training is a reward-based program that fits how much help you need: a self-paced course like BAT 101 ($99) if you're confident working alone, or a live class with instructor feedback on your videos, like Fenzi Dog Sports Academy's reactivity classes ($130 to $260), if you want someone watching your dog. Below we compare six real options with their October 2026 prices, methods and who each one suits.

One honest note before we start: we are DoggoPlan, and our plan is one of the options in the table. We've tried to be fair, including about what we don't offer.

What actually makes an online program good for a reactive dog

Reactivity training happens on your street, with your dog, at a distance he can handle. No program can do that part for you. What a good one gives you is:

  • Reward-based methods only. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior says "Training methods which rely on force, intimidation or pain are unnecessary and unethical," and lists "Balanced training" and "Punish/correct unwanted behavior" as red flags. A 2020 study in PLOS ONE found that aversive-based methods, "especially if used in high proportions, compromise the welfare of companion dogs both within and outside the training context."
  • A way to know your dog's distance. Every good program starts with the distance where your dog can notice a trigger and still eat and think.
  • Some kind of feedback. Videos teach the idea. Feedback tells you why it isn't working on Tuesday at 7am.

That last point matters. From more than 9,000 dog owners who took our free online quiz in 2026, most of them in Europe, about 30% had already tried videos and 27% a course or group class, and of everyone who had tried something, 45% said it didn't work and 15% said it worked but came back. (These are self-selected owners who came to us for help, so they describe dogs with a problem, not dogs in general.) So most owners who reach us have already tried something that didn't stick.

Two other courses rank near the top for this search: SpiritDog Training's Tackling Reactivity and Dogkind's Reactive Dog Survival Guide. Both sell self-paced reactivity courses, but we couldn't confirm their current price, so we've left them out of the table rather than guess. Where the live class wins

Feedback on video is the closest an online program gets to a trainer at your side. If your dog's reactions are fast and you're not sure what you're missing, a Gold spot at Fenzi with an experienced instructor watching your clips is worth the extra cost. The catch is timing: classes run in fixed six-week sessions with limited Gold places.

Where a self-paced course wins

Courses like BAT 101 are good value and teach a well-known, reward-based method in depth. They work best for owners who enjoy reading, filming and adjusting on their own, and who can tell when to slow down.

Where a personalized plan fits

A course gives everyone the same lessons in the same order. Our plan starts from your answers about what sets your dog off, at what distance and for how long, and your coach decides where to start and how fast to go. What it can't do is watch your dog move. If you want eyes on your dog, Fenzi Gold or a local trainer is the better pick, and some owners combine a few trainer sessions with a written plan for the days in between.

A note on "balanced" programs

Some well-produced reactivity courses use corrections alongside rewards and call it balanced training. Some say it's done without force or pain. We'd still steer you away. AVSAB's position statement on humane training says "There is no evidence that aversive methods are more effective than reward-based methods in any context." A reactive dog is usually scared or frustrated, and adding pressure at the moment he's struggling can make the next encounter feel worse for him.

When online isn't the right first step

If your dog has bitten a person or another dog, growls at children, or changed suddenly, please start with your vet and then a veterinary behaviorist or credentialed behavior consultant. AVSAB's advice is clear: "If fear, anxiety or aggression are occurring, contact a veterinarian with advanced behavior knowledge, a vet behaviorist (DACVB), or a credentialed behavior consultant." Our guide on whether your dog is reactive or aggressive can help you tell, and dog behaviorist cost explains who does what and what they charge. If you're weighing sending your dog away instead, read our honest look at board and train for reactive dogs first.

Our take

There isn't one best program for every dog. Pick reward-based, pick the level of feedback you need, and pick something you'll still be doing in week six. If a plan built around your dog suits you better than a course, take the free quiz. Either way, the free reactive dog training guide is a good place to begin.

This is training guidance, not veterinary or medical advice. If your dog has bitten or shows aggression, please talk to your vet and a qualified behavior professional.

Frequently asked questions

Does online training work for reactive dogs?
It can, because reactive dog training happens on your own walks anyway, with you holding the leash. What matters most is that the program uses reward-based methods and helps you work at a distance your dog can handle. It is not the right first step if your dog has bitten.
How much does an online reactive dog course cost?
In October 2026, the programs we checked ranged from £27 for a short self-paced course to $297 for a self-paced course with a 90-day guarantee, and a six-week class with instructor feedback on all your videos cost $260. Most self-paced courses are a one-time payment, and some programs sell a monthly membership on top.
What should I avoid in an online reactive dog program?
Be careful with programs that describe themselves as balanced, or that teach you to correct or punish the reaction. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior lists both as red flags. Also be wary of any promise to fix reactivity in a set number of days.
Is an online course enough if my dog is aggressive?
No. If your dog has bitten, snaps, or you're scared of what he might do, start with your vet and a qualified behavior professional, such as a veterinary behaviorist or a credentialed behavior consultant. An online course can't assess the risk in your home.
